It’s been 27 years since teenage vocal powerhouses Brandy and Monica came together for their GRAMMY-winning classic “The Boy Is Mine.” Now, the twosome are grown women who have maintained their fame and legendary status throughout the years — even taking the time to revive their timeless hit for a new audience by joining Ariana Grande on a remix to her track of the same name that pays homage to them. But, thanks to the Black Promoters Collective, the ladies are about to do their big one this fall when they reunite once again to co-headline their upcoming The Boy Is Mine Tour.
The 24-city tour — the existence of which was accidentally leaked by Ticketmaster last month — will kick off on October 16th at Cincinnati’s Heritage Bank Center before hitting nearly every major market in the US. That includes stops in Chicago, Memphis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Detroit, New Orleans and Washington, D.C. before they wrap everything up on December 7th in Houston. Each diva is sure to be bringing their stacked catalogs along with their stellar duets to keep things jumping.
But the ladies won’t be doing this on their own. Child of Destiny Kelly Rowland and chart-topping singer-songwriter Muni Long have signed on to the tour as supporting acts. Jamal Roberts, who recently claimed victory as the Season 23 winner of American Idol, will also join as the tour’s opening act.
“This really is a full-circle moment,” Brandy said of the upcoming tour in a press release. “Monica and I coming together again isn‘t just about the music — it’s about honoring where we came from and how far we've both come.”
Monica agreed with the sentiment, sharing, “This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us. Brandy and I have been on our own unique journeys, and coming back together in this way is a reminder of the power of respect, strength and real music. We’re giving the people what they’ve been asking for, and doing it with grace, love and purpose.”
Tickets for the tour will go on sale on Friday, June 27th at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. Those who can’t wait that long will have a chance to scoop tickets via the artist presale, which begins on Thursday, June 26th at 10 a.m. local time (fans can use the code “BPC” for access).
