Mya has been a staple in music ever since she debuted way back in 1998. Nearly 30 years later, the star is still going strong as she continues to shut down stages and make big moves as an independent artist. The songstress is now opening up even more and getting a little personal with the release of her latest single “Face To Face.”

Mya is in introspective mode on “Face To Face.” She works alongside frequent collaborators Lamar “MyGuyMars” Edwards and Mike & Keys to bring the song to life with a throwback vibe. The trio comes up with a synth-heavy joint that reminds us of cuts by ’80s groups like The S.O.S. Band. That’s a fitting direction since Mya decides to pay homage to the group by interpolating a bit of their hit “Tell Me If You Still Care” as she takes us into her inner dialogue.

She begins the song by making a strong statement about her faith, saying, “One thing I know fa’ sho, is if nobody else got me, God got me / But at the end of the day, if we tryin’ to get right / We gotta get right with the person in the mirror first.” After that statement, she keeps it 100 with herself and us as she confronts her insecurities head on.

“Face to face, face to face / Looked in the mirror, I confronted all my fears — had a / Face to face, face to face / And now the road look a lil’ bit clearer like,” she sings. “Place to place (yeah), place to place / And err’where I go, I know I don’t walk alone.”

“‘Face to Face’ is about confronting the person in the mirror, embracing every shade, every truth,” the singer said in a press release. “It’s an invitation to quiet the noise, listen deeply, and rediscover the power that resides within our own authenticity. It’s finding peace by getting real.”

We appreciate Mya being so real with us and love that she, in turn, has invited us to do the same. Take some time to do some inner reflection by listening to the latest from the songstress when you press play.
