Let’s face it, there’s not a lot of reasons to smile these days. We can think of one, however: there’s a new project from British soul legend Omar on the horizon. The singer-songwriter has been in high gear as he readies his new album Brighter The Days, releasing singles “Can We Go Out,” the Honey LaRochelle-featuring “Research” and the album’s title track over the past two months. With the set’s release drawing nearer by the day, he’s giving us another sample with “There’s Much Love In The World.”
The song is Omar’s answer to the darkness that seems to be permeating our everyday lives. Rather than dwell on that ugliness, Omar chooses to focus on the love that‘s surrounding us all. He does so with an easygoing rhythm that sways and swings to the beat of the drums while strings and guitar swirl around his vocal. It’s a dreamy sound for a song that asks us to focus on the good.
Lyrically, Omar is full of hope as he sings of feeling the warmth and affection that the world has to give. “So much love in the world / It’s surrounding me every day / When you hold onto each other / And nothing can get in the way,” he sings at one point. “So much love / Surrender yourself to its unyielding pull / You can’t control the feeling, might as well see it through.”
“There’s Much Love In The World” is a great message, and one that’s much needed with things seeming dire in so many places. Listen up when you press play right here. And because we’re feeling the love, you can stick around to see Omar and Honey LaRochelle in the video for “Research” below, too.
