Lizzo is basically an unofficial Saturday Night Live cast member at this point. The “About Damn Time” singer graced the stage of the beloved television institution three times previously — even pulling duty as host and musical guest the last time she appeared in April 2022. Lizzo decided to make it an even four this past weekend when she graced the stage as musical guest while bringing the audience performances of songs from her upcoming album Love In Real Life.

She kicked off her set rock style with a medley of her current singles “Love In Real Life” and “Still Bad.” The set began with Lizzo rocking out on electric guitar as she and her backing singers gave the cut a theatrical rendition. The star then stripped off her leather jacket and revealed a very topical t-shirt to launch into “Still Bad” with a crew of dancers. This portion was quite athletic as Lizzo brought energy as big as the ’fro that she was rocking.

For her second performance, Lizzo debuted a new song entitled “Don’t Make Me Love You.” This time around, she channeled a timeless diva with a fitted gold gown and flowing cape along with a sleeker ’do to match the ensemble. The song, like her previous singles from the album, taps into a more rock sound. Though this time it seemed that she’s giving us Tina Turner with a fusion of rock, pop and soul for good measure. As the performance progressed, the cape attached to her dress billowed against the backdrop to give everything a more dramatic flair.

We still don’t have a release date for Love In Real Life, but a television appearance this high profile can only mean that one is near. In fact, Lizzo confirmed the set is officially in the can with a celebratory Instagram post last month. While we start making room on our calendars, watch her showstopping SNL performances right here.
