Eric Roberson is on a mission to share music with a message. He’s done that on several of his recent releases – 2024’s “Doubt,” “Mask,” “You” and “Here For You” – and now he returns to inspire deep thought and introspection on his latest single, “Where You Gonna Go.” The song is a duet with BJ The Chicago Kid, and together they want listeners to do some soul-searching.
“I don’t know who this message is for. It might be for me,” Eric quips at the beginning of the track, sounding like a preacher starting a sermon with a little icebreaker. Roberson lets go and lets God lead his message through lyrics penned with BJTCK and Rodney Jones.
Erro then begins singing in earnest atop an instrumental sound bed featuring bass, percussion and organ. “Where you gonna go, where you gonna go, where you gonna go-oh-oh-oh-oh / To get where you’re going,” he ponders on the inquisitive chorus. “Sometimes you need to know when to go / So go,” he sings with all sincerity and seriousness.
Roberson continues his soulful sermon on the first verse. “Sometimes you gotta go where love will find you / I’m not saying leave what you love behind you / Listen to life and move when it’s time to,” he reasons.
BJ The Chicago Kid comes through on his verse with some preaching of his own. “Never know tomorrow there might be a mountain / Said an unexpected mountain you gotta climb, yeah, yeah / After climbing all of a sudden you see a river / See a river you gotta swim through / I’m here for you forever, I’m here to help, but some things you gotta do,” BJ croons.
“‘Where You Gonna Go’ is a song that explores simple extremes. It’s inspired by a question I ask myself to help the sunshine, even when facing storms,” Erro stated via press release. “The song’s mission is to enhance people’s self-worth and growth.”
Eric Roberson doesn’t just want people to listen to his music and keep it moving. He wants to encourage them to be better and to do better. Allow Erro and BJ to motivate and move you when you listen to “Where You Gonna Go” right here.
