Doechii continues to prove that she is the moment and far beyond. The rapper/singer has been the name on everybody’s lips and the artist in all of our ears after the success of her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. She’s also an artist that understands the inner workings of social media, creating viral trends repeatedly. One such trend that she birthed is based on her four-year-old song “Anxiety,” which resurfaced this year and then became a top 10 Hot 100 hit. Now she’s bringing the song to life for a full-circle moment in a music video.
The video begins where the song first started: Doechii’s bedroom. The camera pushes in to the frame, literally breaking through the fourth wall before the action begins. The performer is yanked from her room by dancers before being moved between several scenes, including stuntmen kicking through windows, creepy twins and a pair representing Gotye and Kimbra from the “Somebody That I Used To Know” video (which “Anxiety” samples).
She finds herself trapped in a never-ending loop in the house as she desperately tries to break free from the cycle. She seems to do just that when she runs from the house into a choreographed routine that could give Broadway a run for its money. However, as all the dancing and twirling leaves her bewildered, the camera switches to her point of view and moves closer and closer to a bedroom window as it once again breaks through the front wall.
Doechii hasn’t even released her official debut yet, and she’s already got a few groundbreaking videos under her belt. It’s safe to say that “Anxiety” is one of them. Get in the loop when you press play.
