Craig David is celebrating a career milestone this year in the best way he knows how – with more music. This August, the same month he commemorates the 25th anniversary of his debut album Born To Do It, David will release his new album Commitment. His ninth LP will arrive on Friday, August 8th, and he’s shared the cover art, tracklist and latest single “Wake Up.”
For “Wake Up,” Craig rewinds selector to the beginning of his career and the sound that made fans fall hard and dance even harder back in the day. “I wanted to take it back to my garage roots with this one,” he shared on his socials when the single dropped. Craig taps into the energy of his early hits like Artful Dodger’s “Re-Rewind (The Crowd Say Bo Selecta)” and his solo debut single “Fill Me In” on his new jam.
The UK legend urges a woman he’s dated who’s been playing him close like butter plays toast to get with the program. “You better wake up / Baby, don’t go to sleep / You better wake up / Better face reality / You better wake / Up to the fact that / You’re turning your back / On the best thing you ever had / And I want you to know that,” he croons, riding the pulsating rhythm courtesy of producer Mike Brainchild. Craig even drops a scorching hot 16 to further get his point across with his “big man flow.”
“Wake Up” is the fourth Commitment single following “In Your Hands,” “SOS” and “Commitment” featuring Tiwa Savage. Additional collaborators on the album include JoJo on the track “In It With You” and fellow Brit Louisa Johnson who joins Craig on “Leave The Light On.” The project will feature 13 tracks, and other intriguing song titles in the baker’s dozen are “Dominoes,” “Last Chance With You” and “Perfect Love.”
