It’s been a few years since we’ve heard from bLAck pARty, whose album Hummingbird came through like a cool breeze in summer 2022. However, the multitalented artist resurfaced earlier this year to tempt and tease fans with the promise of new music. He makes good on that promise with his latest single “Distant Lover.”
bLAck pARty doesn’t miss a beat on “Distant Lover.” He picks up where Hummingbird left off with the LP’s closer “I Love You More Than You Know.” That track was a collaboration with Childish Gambino who released the album on his Wolf + Rothstein imprint. Now signed to Guin Records, pARty channels the energy of that single on “Distant Lover,” and he is just as smitten.
Over a lush soundscape courtesy of producers Tom Schaeferdiek and Mac Felländer-Tsai, bLAck pARty tries to woo a woman from across the miles. The LA resident and this East Coast cutie have history together, and he wants to make some new memories while lost in old ones.
He’s not shy as he makes desires known on the chorus that’s both steamy and dreamy. “You should be inside my bed / Won’t you come around? / Ooh ooh / You’re in my daydreams / Beauty queen, where are you now / I’ll make you smile / Won’t you come around?” he yearningly sings at the song’s start and throughout. He wants another chance, and he’s hoping to lock her down this go ’round when he sings, “Distant lover, don’t you wanna take flight? / Don’t you wanna be mine? / Baby, be mine, mine.”
