Recorded music is great and all, but there’s something to be said about the live experience. One of the modern-day artists who always makes sure his performance game is on point is singer-songwriter Leven Kali. He really knows how to light up a stage and, with the release of his latest single “Are U Still,” we can’t wait to watch him do it again. Luckily, he’s giving everyone a preview of what’s to come with a live performance video of the track.
The clip takes off pretty quickly, with Leven stepping into the center of a circle of his musician friends to instantly kick off the song’s raucous chorus. The camera then follows him through the smoother opening verse as he spins around to each of the band’s members — including vocalist Fana Hues, saxophonist Braxton Cook and trumpeter Keyon Harrold — as the track shifts through its many genres.
Leven remains at the center of things, literally and figuratively, as he gives off ’70s soul man energy thanks to his ’fro and flared jeans. He commands the jam session, allowing the band to expand on the song’s sound until Keyon’s masterful closing solo.
