Your boy Leon Thomas has been on quite the high lately. That’s due to the success of his sophomore album MUTT, which has delighted R&B fans everywhere and made for a spectacular turn by the singer on his episode of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series. But the biggest part of that current recognition has to be the album’s hit title track. Now, to give “MUTT” even more of a boost, he’s tapped R&B bad boy Chris Brown for the “MUTT (CB REMIX).”
The remixed version of the track doesn’t veer too far from the original. We still get the intro, which highlights the song’s sample of Enchantment’s 1977 cut “Silly Love Song,” that leads into the opening chorus. We also get Leon’s original first verse, on which the singer lays out the complexity of his romantic situation.
The big change, however, comes in the second chorus, where Chris Brown joins in on the fun with a sexy and boastful verse.
“How can I take it easy, babe? / With the way you do that thing I like / Keep on grabbing on my chains / You’re coming home with me tonight,” Breezy sings. “Baby, I’m a different breed / And not your typical / Oh, I love it when you make me chase / Might just listen when you tell me stay.”
Leon Thomas and Chris Brown make quite the match on the track, giving us a different feel than the previous “MUTT (REMIX)” featuring a hot 16 by rapper Freddie Gibbs. But which version suits you best? Find out when you listen to the “MUTT (CB REMIX)” right here.
