Jalen Ngonda has seemingly been on a one-man mission to revive soul ever since he came into our collective consciousness with his debut Come Around And Love Me. Since that album’s release, he’s continued dropping even more new songs — including last September’s “Anyone In Love.” He’s back at it again with his latest single “Just As Long As We’re Together.”
“Just As Long As We’re Together” focuses on Jalen’s favorite subject, love and how strong the bond is between he and his lady. He sings poetically of daily life and how everything seems to stand still whenever his love is around.
“Every time the moon and stars reflect the plains / Our love begins to dwell / You and I begin the sentimental games / Our dreams the clientele,” he sings at the song’s beginning. He’s then soon putting his heart and soul into the chorus, singing, “Just as long as we’re together / There is no place or time.”
The tender sentiment is underscored by a beautiful arrangement of guitar, bass, drums and keys reminiscent of late ’60s/early ’70s soul. This, paired with the sweet urgency of Jalen’s vocal, creates a sublime musical experience that’s sure to satisfy.
