Erykah Badu is poised to have quite the 2025. The Dallas native is set to receive the Billboard Women In Music Icon award later this month. So it’s no surprise that the industry magazine decided to travel to Dallas to profile the singer. While the interview gives further insights into Badu’s past and her life in her hometown, it also drops a piece of news that her fans will love to hear. The neo-soul pioneer is working on her first new album in over a decade.
There’s not a lot revealed about what we can expect from the album. But one of the key details the interview reveals is that the album will be produced solely by The Alchemist. This is a detail that Erykah herself clued us in to on Valentine’s Day when she posted a reel featuring herself and Alchemist in the studio. That video also revealed what could have been our first listen to the project as it was soundtracked by an unreleased, as-yet-untitled snippet that sounds quite good.
Fans have been begging for new music from Erykah Badu for years now. The last time she gave us new solo music was way back in 2015 with her first (and only) mixtape But You Cain’t Use My Phone. It’s been much longer since the singer released an official album, with her New Amerykah Part Two (Return Of The Ankh) arriving in 2010.
We cannot wait to hear what Erykah has in store. But, knowing her track record for these types of things, we know that we’ll get that new Badu whenever she decides to release it — and that’s just alright with us.
