Music enthusiasts are busy filling their calendars with concerts, festivals and events, and now there’s another major one to add to the schedule. Block off Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st for Roots Picnic 2025 in Philadelphia at The Mann in Fairmount Park. The annual music festival is a must-attend every year, and this year is no different featuring a killer lineup of artists and events with cross-genre and cross-generational appeal.

Roots Picnic 2025 boasts a talent roster led by D’Angelo who will be in performance with The Roots. D’Angelo recently surfaced in Questlove’s acclaimed Sly Stone documentary Sly Lives! (AKA The Burden Of Black Genius), which has us hopeful that new music may be on the way soon. But even if he doesn’t sing anything new, D’Angelo has two milestone album anniversaries this year – Brown Sugar turns 30 in July and Voodoo just turned 25 in January – that he’ll more than likely commemorate at Roots Picnic.

The Roots themselves plan to celebrate 30 years of their debut album Do You Want More? during a special set. Also in a celebratory mood will be Musiq Soulchild, who’ll perform a commemorative set in honor of his debut album Aijuswanaseing turning 25 this year, and Jeezy, whose studio debut Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 will hit the 20-year mark in July.

Look for the ageless Lenny Kravitz to rock out, while producer and DJ extraordinaire Kaytranada turns up. Miguel will bring his alternative R&B styles to the stage, Nigerian superstar Tems will come through with her signature blend of R&B and Afrobeats and world-renown musical director Adam Blackstone will lead a curation featuring ’90s R&B heartthrobs Jagged Edge and another act who has yet to be announced.

Additional curations and collaborations include J. Period who returns with his J. Period Live Mixtape series with special guests Black Thought, Pusha T and 2 Chainz. Gossip blog Baller Alert will bring go-go back to Roots Picnic with Backyard Band in performance with CeeLo Green. DJ Rich Medina will gather Crystal Waters and CeCe Peniston to join him for a legendary Black house music set. DJ Aktive will present a live edition of Chill Vibes with an assist from Raheem DeVaughn.

On the hip-hop tip, Philly’s own Meek Mill is also listed as a headliner. Hip-hop honeys GloRilla, Latto and Lay Bankz are on tap to rap, and there’ll be dope DJs on hand to move the crowd such as Funk Flex and Diamond Kuts. Gospel artist Jermaine Dolly will make a joyful noise, while up-and-coming R&B artists Elmiene, Laila! and Peyton are sure to make an impression.
