British crooner Omar made a splash on our side of the pond recently when his For Your Pleasure Tour hit our shores. But that’s not all we’ll be seeing of the veteran singer in 2025. That’s because he’s set to release his latest album Brighter The Days this June. Before that, though, he’s easing us into what’s to come with “Can We Go Out?,” the set’s lead single.
The song sits right in the pocket of what we expect from Omar. It begins with a jazzy instrumental intro that allows each of the song’s elements to simmer slowly as things lead up to Omar’s unmistakable vocal. It takes a while, but he doesn’t make us wait too long before his familiar tone pops up on the scene.
The song finds him requesting to spend some time with a love interest who’s caught his eye. Although he lays things on thick, his intention is sincere, as he expresses in the second verse. “All I’m asking is if I could hold you down / Be the one you can rely on, there’s no doubt,” he sings. “On my shoulder / You can lean / Exhale with me and breathe.” On the chorus, however, he keeps it simple and sweet as he asks, “Can we go out again, baby?”
We have a feeling that “Can We Go Out” will be representative of the goodness that Omar will be bringing on Brighter The Days. Not only will we be getting a whopping 18 tracks featuring the singer’s signature vocals, but the set will also feature a who’s who of guests — including faves like Ledisi, India.Arie, Eric Roberson, Raheem DeVaughn, Jeru The Damaja and several others.
“Each album is an evolution, if you will,” the singer said of the set. “But I’d like to think this is my magnum opus.”
You’ll be able to feast your ears on Better The Days in full on Friday, June 6th. But, until then, you can listen to the soulful sounds of “Can We Go Out?” and watch its lyric video below. Then stick around to see the album’s artwork and full tracklist.
