Muni Long has had R&B in a chokehold for the past few years. She has the GRAMMY Awards to prove it, recently taking home her second Best R&B Performance GRAMMY at this year’s show. Muni isn’t letting up, and she tightens her grip on our playlists – and on her lover – with her sexy new song “Slow Grind.”
Long has lovemaking on her mind in “Slow Grind,” and she’s not shy about her desires. She sets an enticing scene for her man from verse one. “Me and you are 1942,” Muni begins with a reference to Don Julio tequila and how intoxicating their connection is. “Making a flick, old school / You like that s**t, don’t you? / I want to hear your sounds, turn the TV down / Beat it up, beat it up, beat it up, going ’round,” she pleads.
The “Hrs & Hrs” singer co-produced the song with Charlie Coffeen, and they channel the essence of ’90s R&B slow jams. Heavy on the synths and steady on the programmed drums, the track is made for private times and the whole nine.
The song’s seductive lyrics are the cherry on top of the instrumentation. “One time, I wanna slow grind, baby / All night, I wanna slow grind, baby / That’s right, I wanna slow grind, baby / All night, all night,” she sings on the sticky hook.
Muni hasn’t indicated if “Slow Grind” is just a one-off single, a new track that will be included on a deluxe edition of her latest album Revenge or the start of her next album cycle. Whatever the case, she’s got another hit on her hands, and we’re loving this musical valentine. Get into the groove of Muni Long’s “Slow Grind” and enjoy a sneak peek of a potential visual for the song below. Now if you’ll excuse us, we gotta go see a man about a horse.
