Melanie Fiona is continuing to roll out her next project. She introduced the upcoming EP entitled Say Yes last October with the singles “Say Yes” and “I Choose You.” While she puts the finishing touches on the release, Fiona drops her third new single “Mona Lisa Smile.”

Borrowing its title from the 2003 drama starring Julia Roberts and Julia Stiles, Melanie brings some drama of her own to this song. She co-wrote the track with Lil Eddie Serrano, and they paint a vivid picture of a woman going through it in life and love yet she remains steadfast. Mel delivers her searing message over a soulful sound bed courtesy of producer Andre Harris.

With lyrics like, “I’d rather go to war before I’d let a teardrop hit this floor,” it’s clear that Fiona isn’t going to let anyone play in her face – least of all the man she’s pledged her love to. That love may have lost its shine, but she is unwavering as she digs her heels in on the chorus.

“I’ll never let you see me breaking down / You’ll never have to pick me up off the ground / I’d rather stand pretty than beg and plead for your pity / And I’ll go a million miles / Wearing this Mona, Mona Lisa Smile,” she sings with her head held high.

According to Melanie, “Mona Lisa Smile” is, “An homage to all the brave, broken, beautiful works of art… the women, the wives, the mothers… truly, anyone holding it together, despite wanting to fall apart,” she shared on her socials when the song dropped. “The ‘Mona Lisa Smile’ is the armor we all wear to protect our pain.”

Not only is Melanie Fiona back, she is in her bag. Our girl is three-for-three with her new singles. While we stay tuned for more news about her Say Yes EP, listen to her “Mona Lisa Smile” right here.
