Lizzo Is Back With A Rock Edge & Looking To Find ‘Love In Real Life’

To say that Lizzo has had a rough couple of years would be an understatement. The singer, who last gave us musical joy with her 2022 album Special, suffered a bit of backlash on social media that was capped with a vicious harassment lawsuit brought by former backup dancers. It seems that the star has weathered those storms, however, and is ready to reintroduce herself with a new era. And she does just that with a bit of an edge on her latest single “Love In Real Life.”

The singer strays from the R&B and hip-hop vein most people are used to from her on this track. She tries a bit of rock and roll on for size as she faces her trepidation about finding love. As guitars strum and drums aggressively keep the tempo, the singer navigates stepping back onto the scene with a bit of liquid courage — and she’s doing so with attitude.

“Hey, ho, hey, ho / Give me something with a little tempo / Hey, ho, hey, ho / Give me something I can throw it back for,” she howls on the chorus. “By the end of the world, by the еnd of the night / Baby, come over hеre, I need love in real life.”

She gets very cinematic in the song’s accompanying video, as well. It begins with Lizzo crying in front of the mirror as she does some soul searching. She’s soon out of the house and ready to hit the club, hopping in the car and then eventually taking over the dance floor. While things are fun, they soon get a little weird and send the star running to the streets. That’s where she pays tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video as dancers in frightful makeup join her in a dance-off before the visual comes to an end.
