Rae Khalil had a winner on her hands when she released her album CRYBABY last August. The set, buoyed by lead single “IS IT WORTH IT,” was an unexpected breath of fresh air and featured several fan favorites among its tracklist. One song that many wanted released is the stone-cold groove “CARPINTERIA.” The Freddie Gibbs-featuring cut is now the latest to get the visual treatment with a cinematic clip.
The song, about a slippery love affair between Rae and a paramour with whom she has exquisite sexual chemistry, is a story on its own. The singer-songwriter weaves a tale of lust and potential love that left many fans riveted upon first listen.
The video incorporates other elements to flesh the drama out. It opens with Rae in an intense makeout session with DUCKWRTH in the kitchen of a venue. Rather than intrude on their very intimate moment, though, the camera follows the action surrounding their action, latching on to a scandalized passerby who leads us through the club to the parking lot for a meetup with Freddie. The rapper, decked out in a pimptastic outfit then takes us for a ride while he spits his Notorious B.I.G.-inspired verse.
A quick cut takes us back to the club, where Rae has finished her quickie and is now hanging out with her homie and label boss Anderson .Paak and a few dancers. She allows them a few frames of screen time before taking it to the stage to conclude her set and the clip with a knowing smile and wink before everything fades to black.
“CARPINTERIA” was already a vibe, but the song’s visual only enhances the track by turning it into a must-see. Peep Rae Khalil doing things with a cinematic flair when you watch her latest music video below.
