Singer-songwriter Jessica Jolia has always been able to curate a vibe. The artist, who continues to hit stages worldwide with a who’s who of pop royalty, recently showcased that talent on The Life. The joint EP paired her with frequent collaborator Yaahn Hunter, Jr. for six tracks that showcased their undeniable musical chemistry. All six of the songs are bangers. The one that stands out most, however, is the confident cut “Mink Coat.” Now the song gets the remix treatment with an assist from crooner Kevin Ross.
The original, which didn’t need much sprucing up to begin with, is an assertive jam on which Jessica lets it be known that she looks too good to have people play with her time or question her worth. “Black dress / Mink coat / You know / She don′t / Got no / Time for / No / Shucking and jiving,” she sings with an icy staccato over a hypnotic piano riff, molten bass line and hand claps. Pairing the intimidating imagery with such a warm groove gives the song an intriguing dichotomy that’s just as beguiling as the scene Jessica relays.
Kevin doesn’t seem to be too fazed by this at all on his added verse. In fact, he steps to the plate to match her energy quite nicely. “Got the black tux on Met Gala steppin’ / Hooked on her, you’re my only fetish / You’re top tier and it’s no question / Throw it at me and I’m gon’ catch it,” he sings. From there, the two vocalists allow their voices to play, adding to the cut’s richness and making this the perfect jam to step out to on any occasion.
