Durand Bernarr is once again having a moment. The indie R&B darling is a first-time GRAMMY nominee vying for the gold at this weekend’s ceremonies. He’s also on the verge of possibly releasing a new project. But for now, he’s offering a listen of what’s to come with the release of his new single “Impact.”
“Impact” focuses on intention as Durand examines how the intention behind an action is just as important as the effect. He teaches this lesson with a funky, modern groove that’s tightly arranged with synths, programmed kicks and snares. It’s in the swing of this where he imparts his knowledge with the wit and humor that only he can deliver.
“Don’t push or shove / I will take a nudge / You can lift me up / Correct me out love,” he sings. “Stepped on your toes, toes / You know I didn’t mean it / Just let go, go / Ain’t gotta overthink it / If ain’t broke, broke / Sorry isn’t needed.”
The accompanying visualizer features the star doing a little painting in a greenhouse while wearing the hell out of fabulously styled overcoat. We never get to see the masterpiece he is working on. What we do get, however, is a glimpse at both the serious and silly sides of Durand Bernarr as he serves.
We don’t know when Durand will be giving us more in addition to “Impact,” but this soulful session is one that everyone should take heed of. Listen to “Impact” and watch its visualizer when you head below.
