The fellas of THEY. have something going on. The duo — consisting of Dante Jones and Drew Love — are readying the release of their upcoming album LOVE.JONES for early next year and are now in promotion mode. They’ve already hinted at what’s to come on lead single “Diamonds And Pearls,” signaling the ’90s R&B feel they’re going for on the set. Their recently released second single “Straight Up” confirms that idea by leaning heavy into those vibes.

The song, a modern slow jam self-produced by the twosome, kicks off with a sample from the era they’re emulating. Once the mood is set, they then get things started with the tap of programmed drums, synths and sped-up sampled vocals. The affair has a Jodeci feel, a fact acknowledged in the lyrics as Drew sings, “I know I got you feenin’ like Jodeci.”

Speaking of lyrics, the fellas get pretty frank about what they want to do to you as they brag about their prowess. But they aren’t just bragging, as they let us know on the chorus that they can back it up. “Straight up / And only I can give it to ya,” they sing. “Straight up / And show me you can take it, baby / Straight up / You know I’m never playin’ ‘bout ya / Straight up.”

THEY. is definitely making sure they set the mood this go ’round. Perhaps that’s because LOVE.JONES will be dropping on Friday, February 14th of next year, and they’re aiming to spice up your Valentine’s Day.
