Seasons have changed in North America, and it’s officially winter. However, it’s all about Summer right now – Summer Walker, that is. The R&B songstress has ushered in her Finally Over It era with the project’s lead single “Heart Of A Woman.” After dropping the song in October and a set of alternate versions in November, Walker ends December with a steamy visual for the track co-starring rapper NLE Choppa.
Over a sample of indie R&B singer Romeyo Wilson’s 2023 single “For Now,” Summer taps into the emotions a woman feels when her man is going low yet she chooses to take the high road. Instead of reciprocating his toxic energy, she lets her heart lead her – for better or worse.
Walker and Choppa bring “Heart Of A Woman” to life in a unique way. At its onset, we see her in full glam at a photo shoot, but by the look on her face, something is clearly wrong. The scene changes to a luxurious bedroom with Summer dolled up in a different look. A message comes through on a cell phone on the bed that catches her attention and sends her marching down the hall. She confronts NLE in the shower and ends up joining him.
After their very sexy and very wet rendezvous, we’re taken back to the photo shoot. We see what soured Summer’s mood when the camera reveals NLE flirting with a wardrobe stylist in front of her face. Before we see what pops off next, the scene switches back to Summer in their bedroom and reliving the moment when the message comes through two more times. In both scenarios, her reactions and actions change, leading to two starkly different outcomes that show what happens when a woman’s fed up.
“Heart Of A Woman” is the first listen of Summer Walker’s highly anticipated new album Finally Over It, the final chapter of her Over It trilogy. The third album in the series that began with her 2019 breakout Over It and continued with the follow-up set Still Over It in 2021, Finally Over It doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to drop in early 2025 on LVRN.
