It’s good to have the enchanting Elle Varner back and here on her own terms. The singer-songwriter recently went independent and announced the decision with the release of her single “Black” in celebration of Black Music Month this past June. Varner is returning with new music just before the year closes, this time serenading us with her single “Fallin Up.”

“Fallin Up” is a return to her Perfectly Imperfect sound with dreamy production provided by L3gion, Los Hendrix and Jordan Ware. They craft a sound bed full of gently strummed guitar, echo-y drums and just the slightest touch of strings. It’s the perfect sound for a song about the floating, bubbly feeling that falling in love can give you.

Elle, in turn, pens and sings lyrics that touch on the song’s theme. She sings of a feeling that she wants to divulge, though she might lack the right words to convey just how deeply she feels. She somehow finds a way to show that just being near her love feels like home. She then sums it all up on the chorus, singing, “It’s nothing like a drug / I always have enough / It’s like I’m fallin’ up.”

So far, Elle Varner is rekindling that magic that had us asking for a refill when we first got acquainted with her talent over a decade ago. Here’s hoping that her independent journey keeps this momentum going.
