Anthony Hamilton has sung about a variety of women over the years. He crooned about the one that got away on “Charlene” from his debut album Comin’ From Where I’m From. Then on his sophomore album Ain’t Nobody Worryin’, he charmed a curvy cutie known as “Sista Big Bones” and shared the tale of a “Preacher’s Daughter.” Now for his latest single “QUEEN,” Anthony sings the praises of Black women as a collective. The track is a feel-good love letter, and he brings the song’s energy and positive vibes to its music video.

Black women surround Hamilton in front of and behind the camera. A trio of queens – Kamryn Harris, Raianna C. Brown and Ta Nycia Wooden – direct the piece featuring a cast of around-the-way, everyday beauties. Dressed in a color palette of neutral earth tones, the ladies are of all ages, sizes, complexions and hair textures to show the breadth of Black womanhood. AHam sits and socializes with the cast in a group shot before breaking out into his solo scenes of him singing and getting into its groove. He’s not alone in busting a move, with a few of the women (including co-director, producer and choreographer Brown) doubling as dancers and gracing the screen with their fluid movements throughout the clip.

Anthony expressed his happiness with the outcome of the video for “QUEEN” and the dream team involved in its creation. “The love, appreciation, beauty and grace that was put into this masterpiece is more than words can express! THANK YOU QUEENS,” he gushed on Instagram after it dropped.

We appreciate the “for Black women, by Black women” spirit that went into the production of the “QUEEN” visuals and applaud Anthony Hamilton for standing on business when it comes to Black women. Watch our favorite soul brotha serenade and celebrate soul sistas right here.
