Tuxedo is back! The duo consisting of singer-songwriter Mayer Hawthorne and producer Jake One have returned for a fourth full-length outing on Tuxedo IV. They’ve already previewed the set with singles “Back 4 More,” “Think Twice” and “Cake,” and now that the whole set has dropped, they thrill us some more with a visual for “This Is 4 You.”
“This Is 4 You” is a party jam with a happy groove filled with joyous piano and guitar set atop a sticky bass line and drums, so it’s fitting that they throw a party in the visual. It’s an intimate affair, though, as they get together with their usual crew to throw done in the studio. The clip begins with Mayer and Jake sitting down at the boards while dressed in the same duds as their “Back 4 More” video. Quick cuts reveal the rest of the crew — singer Gavin Turek, drummer Benji Demps, guitarist Noe “Nuki” Rodriguez and Clifton “Scooter” Maxie on keys — as they get down with the get down. The good times keep flowing from there, with smiles and hand claps dispersed all around before the clip fades to black.
This track is only a taste of the good times to be had on Tuxedo IV, with the duo paying homage to their funk forefathers while forging their own unique way ahead. It’s safe to say that Tuxedo is just as good, if not better, the fourth time around.
