NAO Is Floating High On Love On ‘Elevate’

The return of NAO is shaping up to be one of our favorite things to happen this year. The unique-voiced British star came back on the block in a big way with the release of her single "Wildflowers” and promises of a new album. Now the singer-songwriter continues the rollout with her latest single “Elevate.”

NAO turns to producer Stint for this one, and he gives her a soundscape reminiscent of some of Lucky Daye’s work. There’s a slight shuffle to the groove, which is held together by a snaky bass line, glowing synths and programmed drums. But this isn’t a bite. Instead, NAO infuses things with her own style as she describes a love that keeps lifting her higher.

She sings of special moments that she can’t believe are true, like waking up next to her love in the morning and the pleasure she feels when they’re near.

“I’m not one for being selfish / I know that I can’t help it / It’s like cocaine in your kiss / The way that I can’t go a day without it,” she sings on the hook. “I’m off the ground when it hits / Hope we stay floating like this.”

She pairs the song with another simple-yet-gorgeous visualizer. Rather than luxuriating in a floral backdrop, however, she stands against a backdrop of shooting stars that fall like raindrops. It not only echoes the song’s lyrics, but it also frames the songstress perfectly.

NAO still isn’t spilling any tea about the title or release date for her new project, but she’s two for two when it comes to singles so far. Listen to “Elevate” and watch its visualizer when you head below.
