Mario has some big things poppin’ in the near future. His upcoming album, Glad You Came, is set for release this December and then he’ll embark alongside Ne-Yo as he joins Mary J. Blige’s upcoming The For My Fans Tour in January. With those coming up fast, Mario is on the album promotion fast track and drops the set’s latest single and title track “Glad You Came.”
“Glad You Came” is a smooth R&B ballad with a slight throwback feel that finds the singer toying with wordplay as he gives reasons to get closer. The song starts with piano and intricate background vocals as he sets the mood. That, of course, leads to the lyrics themselves.
He makes his desires plain almost immediately on the track, with him describing the kind of man and lover he is. After stating that case, he then gives a knowing wink on the chorus, singing, “You gon’ be glad you came / And even more glad you stayed / On God, I love keeping you safe / ’Cause you deserve the time and space / Girl, I won’t let it go to waste.”
For the song’s video, Mario keeps it simple. It begins with him meeting his lady love in a secluded place. After spooking her a bit while she sits in a classic car, he then invites her to a performance of the song that’s for her eyes only. Decked out in black leather, he seduces her from a few feet away before getting real close and personal and ending the clip in a sensual embrace.
“Glad You Came” shows us that Mario is bringing a silky, soulful brand of R&B this time around. We’ll find out what else he has to offer when the album arrives on Friday, December 13th.
