Coming back after a long time off isn’t easy. But if you ask us, Choklate is making it look like no big deal. The singer-songwriter recently started her big comeback after several years away from her solo work with her single “Say So.” After dropping that song a few weeks ago, she’s keeping the momentum flowing while asking us a few important questions with her newest single “What If.”
Like “Say So,” “What If” is produced by Focus... — who makes his presence known automatically at the beginning of the track. He also makes us want to move with sounds that teeter between modern R&B and electronic dance music, complete with insistent drums and synth flourishes designed to keep the crowd moving while keeping the vibe.
Choklate seizes the opportunity to encourage us to live life to its fullest with loaded questions meant to set us free on “What If.”
“What if it all goes right? / What if tonight’s the night? / What if the dreams you see with your mind’s eye / Come right into your life,” she asks at the song’s beginning. Chok continues, “What if we love each other? / What if we hold each other up?” There are no direct answers to be found, but the beauty of her lyrics is that we already know what we want them to be.
