The wait for new music from Melanie Fiona has ended. After taking some time away to focus on her growing family and other creative endeavors, she is back in a mighty way. The GRAMMY Award-winning mother of two has dropped two new singles – “Say Yes” and “I Choose You” – with the promise of more to come on a forthcoming EP.
Melanie enlists the talents of a few heavy hitters on “Say Yes.” The track is produced by Andre Harris of the duo Dre & Vidal, she co-wrote it with SiR and musicians Thundercat, Charlie Bereal and Chris “Daddy” Dave play on it. With these all-stars in the mix, it’s no surprise that this song sounds as incredible as it does. The bluesy live instrumentation is the perfect complement to Mel’s soulful vocals as she pleads to the one who has her heart, “I want love without the war.”
Her heart finds peace on “I Choose You.” Set to an island-breezy reggae groove produced by Akeel Henr and xSDTRK, the Guyanese-Canadian songstress is in her sweet spot. Inspired by her wedding vows, the happily married mama dedicates this heartfelt love letter to her hus-bae Jared Cotter who she would choose over and over again.
“These songs come from a very personal place,” Fiona stated in a press release. “They are about love, choice and empowerment – allowing yourself to say yes, to the love and life that is waiting for you on the other side of fear.”
In addition to sharing some insight into the singles, Melanie turned to social media to show her appreciation to everyone who’s stuck with her all these years. “To my loyal supporters and online community, anyone who has been here, or just got here...Thank YOU for your consistent love and support as I lost and found my way back to this era of new music,” she posted on Instagram and Facebook before the songs were released. “Thank YOU for showing me grace and unwavering love as I evolved as an Artist, Mother and Human Being. Thank YOU for holding space for me to heal from things unspoken and always letting me know ‘We’re ready for new music when you are.’ I Am Ready.”
