Leon Bridges is in the swing of it now. That’s because his fourth album Leon is set to release this Friday, October 4th. The set has garnered two singles thus far, “Peaceful Place” and “Laredo,” that have resonated with his audience and given us an idea of what to expect from the Texas crooner’s latest. As the promotional push ramps up, he offers one last single with “That’s What I Love.”
“That’s What I Love” is a smooth R&B ballad on which Leon lays out some of the things and moments he holds near and dear. Not unlike the classic song from The Sound Of Music, Leon’s favorite things range from the material to the sensual. However, Bridges also finds ways to mix in romance as he names things about his partner — from her kisses to the feel of her lips and the way she looks in the dashboard lights. He caps it all with the simple chorus, on which he sings, “Ooh ooh / That’s what I love, that’s what I love.”
The singer-songwriter has already managed to perform the song twice as he hits the promo trail. He stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for a touching performance backed by house band The Roots and strings. He then stopped by Amazon Music's Songline series for a more stripped-back version of the song with his own band. Both performances showcase how achingly beautiful the song is and why it just might be one of the best things we’ve heard from Leon yet.
If you’re a fan of Leon Bridges or just a fan of good, quality songwriting, “That’s What I Love” will probably be right up your alley.
