Craig David has been filling us in ever since he dropped his debut album Born To Do It back in 2000. And now he’s experiencing a well-deserved resurgence, with the British singer seemingly everywhere — including live appearances and collaborations with next-generation artists. David is also back on the block with inspirational new music on his latest single “In Your Hands.”
“In Your Hands” taps into the trend of R&B stars going country, as plenty of that genre’s twang is mixed in with Craig’s own pop/R&B aesthetic. The twist that Craig adds to the affair, however, is mixing a bit of gospel/inspirational flair into it as well. That mainly comes with the interpolation of the spiritual “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands,” which serves as the basis for the chorus. But he also adds a bit of the inspirational message to the verse.
There, he speaks of his younger days and his desire to return home. “I feel like a young boy / But now the garden’s grown / I took the long road / I took the long way to finally find my way home,” he sings on the song’s second verse. “’Cause I’ve been praying before I go to sleep / I hear that voice inside of me / ’Cause you’ve been with me all along.”
He further expresses this concept in the song’s visual. It opens with a young version of himself listening to his early jam “7 Days,” a nod to both his youth and past success, before the whistle and twangy guitar of “In Your Hands” begins. There’s then a juxtaposition of scenes with his younger self and the fully grown Craig as he acknowledges how far along he’s come in this life.
Craig David has definitely come a long way in his career, and “In Your Hands” is yet another interesting change of pace. You can listen to the wholesome track when you stream it via Spotify below and then stick around to watch its heartwarming video.
