BeMyFiasco got our attention earlier this year when she dropped her single “Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover” back in April. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been locked in with her +FE Music family to work on new releases from The Foreign Exchange, Darien Brockington and Nicolay. Little did we know that she had a new project waiting in the wings, too. She surprises fans and continues +FE Music’s chokehold on our playlists with her brand-new EP Pretty Little Love, the follow-up to her stellar 2021 debut album Where I Left You.
The eight-song set finds the Dallas native further exploring her talent as she pairs up with others. Six of the tracks have features — including labelmates Phonte and Carlitta Durand as well as Katori Walker, JAWAN.mp3, Sonny Miles and Lola Violet — with each tapping into a different kind of mood while also giving off a distinct ’90s R&B feel. It’s worth noting, though, that what’s going on here is an homage and not an aping of the style. BeMyFiasco smartly leaves her own mark with honest lyrics sure to keep you engaged and top-notch production courtesy of Zo!, Tall Black Guy, Misha, ANKN & VDR and additional collaborators.
Standouts on Pretty Little Love, besides the aforementioned “Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover,” include the ethereal title track; the funky, southern-fried bounce of “Red Light Fantasy” and the throwback slow jam “Might Be Ready.” However, every song included here could easily be played on repeat at any given moment.
BeMyFiasco’s Pretty Little Love is one of the most welcome surprises we’ve received this year. And once you take a listen, we’re sure you’ll share our sentiment.
