Life is good for Tamron Hall. The respected journalist turned popular daytime TV host is now six seasons into her Emmy Award-winning Tamron Hall Show. To celebrate her show’s sixth year, she decided to spruce things up a bit with a new theme song and tapped The Baylor Project to do the honors. The GRAMMY-nominated husband and wife duo delivered with the snappy tune “Good Life” and stopped by the season six premiere episode to perform it live.
This opportunity fell into The Baylor Project’s lap after their performance on Tamron Hall Show’s fifth season finale this spring. Hall asked Marcus Baylor and Jean Baylor to create her show’s new theme song, and they jumped into action. The couple locked in with their band and tailored the lyrics to Hall’s life, mission and passion. In no time, “Good Life” was born.
“This was one of the easiest collaborations we’ve ever had,” Marcus shared about the song’s stress-free creative process. Jean, who went to Temple University with Tamron, said, “It’s a full-circle moment,” referring both to the track and their 35-year friendship.
“They created a song that speaks to the spirit of the Tam Fam,” Hall said about the song before welcoming The Baylor Project back to her stage to perform. She thanked Jean and Marcus profusely for their catchy contribution to the Tamron Hall Show and said of the song, “This is the story of our life because we all deserve a good life.”
Accompanied by Terry Brewer on piano, Keith Loftis on saxophone, Freddie Hendrix on trumpet, Mark Williams on trombone and Ben Williams on upright bass, Marcus assumed his position on drums and Jean stepped right on up to the mic. The instrumentation had a jazzy swing to it, perfect for the song’s feel-good lyrics.
“I give you everything I am / You give it back to me and more / We’re gonna make our dreams come true and live a good life, a good life,” Jean sang with a smile. Tamron Hall and her studio audience were on their feet for the whole song and responded with steady handclaps and shoulder bops throughout and raucous applause when the jam ended.
