We’re always sad to see the summer go. A time filled with fun days and hot nights, it’s always a season to remember. However, we shouldn’t forget about the beauty of the approaching fall. One of the things we have to look forward to is the upcoming release Portrait, the brand-new album from jazz chanteuse Samara Joy. We’ve already received a lush listen to the project with “You Stepped Out Of A Dream.” Now, the singer gives us another listen to the set with her take on the standard “Autumn Nocturne.”
Opening with languid horns and faint touches of piano over romantic brushed snare, “Autumn Nocturne” is an achingly beautiful song of love and heartache as the season’s change. Samara sings of a vow broken by her lover to return to her arms at the turning of the leaves. Despite the crushing blow, she remains hopeful that her love will eventually return to rekindle the spark that united them in the first place.
“The flaming moon reminds me of / The night of love that we once knew,” she sings in soothing, dulcet tones. “Each tiny star is but a prayer / That when it’s fall again, love will call again / And you’ll be beside me to make / My autumn dreams come true.”
Though “Autumn Nocturne” might be a classic tune from another era, you can’t deny that Samara Joy surely knows how to make a song all her own. And we’re sure that Portrait will contain many more enchanting moments when it’s released on October 11th.
