In the world of pop music, hitmaker Katy Perry is on the verge of mounting a comeback with her upcoming album 143. The set has dropped two singles — “WOMAN’S WORLD” and “LIFETIMES” — in the lead up to its September 20th release, though it doesn’t seem that the songs have set the world on fire. Perhaps that’s why Katy is turning up the heat by linking up with our favorite Swamp Princess Doechii for the album’s third single “I’M HIS, HE’S MINE.”

The song aims to hook us from the jump with an automatically recognizable sample of Crystal Waters’ seminal hit “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” acting as its base. That’s then spiced up with trap hi-hats and sharp handclaps that give the two ladies and chance to ride the beat. And ride they do as they make it known that they are everything to their man.

“I’m his queen, I’m his freak / I’m every woman he wants and need / I’m his dream, I’m his drug / I’m every woman he wants, so what?” Katy says at the beginning of the chorus. Doechii, however, takes it up a few notches as she says, “I’m his boss, I’m that b***h / I’m every woman he knows exists / I’m his main, I’m his side / I’m every woman that’s in his mind.”

The same dynamic is exemplified in the song’s video. Katy delivers in several setups that show her doing everything from tumbling through the sky with her man to riding on the hood of his shiny chrome sports car. It’s all blended together seamlessly with quick camera cuts and interesting angles. While her scenes are cute, however, Doechii’s are where the video’s spice is located. From her out-there fashions to floating on the scene on a drone, her presence commands our attention and we’ll gladly give it.

With her critically acclaimed mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal blowing people’s minds and now a high-profile pop feature under her belt, it looks like Doechii season is upon us.
