It’s almost time for us to tuck into the latest album from Gallant. His new set Zinc. will arrive when the clock strikes midnight (Friday, September 27th) and is sure to show us a different side of the singer-songwriter than we’ve come to expect. But before it officially arrives, he gives us one last preview with the release of his NAO-featuring single “Centigrade.”
The temperamental cut focuses on a relationship that seems to be on the verge of going gold. Helping to create that mood is producer Ariza, who layers in icy cool synths over slow-moving percussion to evoke the feeling of love slowly freezing over. That gives Gallant the opportunity to get into his feelings as he expresses them on the verse and chorus. “We keep losing sleep from accusations / Icy convеrsations we don’t get back / Touch-and-go it’s worth the wait / But how’s thе hesitation going to fight that cold weather? / Can’t say it’s springtime forever," he sings.
NAO follows that with her own questions and intentions to help thaw the cold forming between them. “So are we just wasting time / Or should we let fate decide?” she sings at one point. “I know that it can’t be springtime forever / But how do we make it through the seasons together?”
The song comes with an appropriate video that features Gallant trying to find his way among a dark backdrop. We mostly get the singer in silhouette, though we do get several artistic shots as the visual progresses. What we don’t get, however, are any scenes of NAO — which might be the only drawback involved here.
We’re intrigued to hear what Gallant will be bringing to the table when Zinc. arrives on the scene. Start your countdown when you check out the stream and video for “Centigrade.” below.
