Victoria Monét has had quite the year thus far, with GRAMMYs on her mantel for her debut JAGUAR II, a successful tour and several stellar performances under her belt with a whole third of the year left to go. It seems that Ms. Monét has more than a few surprises up her sleeve before 2024 is a wrap, including her steamy new collaboration “SOS (Sex On Sight),” which features the one and only Usher.
The two singers coming together on a track seemed inevitable after Victoria paid tribute to Usher with a titillating performance of “Bad Girl” alongside Teyana Taylor at this year’s BET Awards. The twosome makes the payoff of this eventuality sweet thanks to old-school R&B production courtesy of the in-demand Camper. He creates a sound bed decorated with sticky bass, piano, a dash of guitar and splashy horns for the singers to luxuriate in.
Victoria is up first and she uses her verse to set up the song’s premise. She starts by sending up a signal for Ursh to come and get it, singing, “I need that SOS, sex on sight, baby, it’s urgent / Let me f**k up all your plans, come put this work in / ’Cause I think it’s about time we take this all the way.”
Usher, meanwhile, lays out his plan to put in work with a quick rhyme. “I got a question, though / If I can make the time, are we good to go? / Texting me X and Os / Can‘t kiss, touch, lick, through the phone, though,” he teases. “But I can make a cameo / In a movie only you see, keep it low.”
It’s all wrapped up on the chorus, where things get pretty explicit. Victoria softly sings, “I am way too sexy / To be alone / Wanna show you what type / Of time that I’m on / Want you to come / Send me your ETA / And when you lay me down / Pin my legs to the clouds / And I hope you’re ready for the rain.”
“SOS” is just a taste of what’s to come. While discussing the song’s release with Apple Music, Victoria confirmed that the song is one of two collaborations she has with Usher and that it will be included on an upcoming deluxe edition of JAGUAR II. Although she played coy with specifics, we have a feeling that we’ll be hearing much more about this set real soon.
