British singer-songwriter Elmiene has been quite the busy bee in the past year, releasing not only his debut EP Marking My Time but also two live EPs (Live At RAK Studios and Live At 525) and a host of singles. But his prolific streak isn't over and the performer is preparing yet another EP for release later this year. He brings us a listen to the upcoming project with the release of his latest single “Light Work.”

The song is yet another masterclass in modern-day songcraft, with Elmiene merging the lyrical sincerity of Babyface-style songwriting with production that keeps one foot in yesteryear and one planted in the now. The result is an endearing and enduring love song that resonates. This is only helped by the warm guitar and piano used in the track alongside crisp drums and tight harmonies in the backing vocals.

Elmiene, meanwhile, offers a beautiful love letter fitting for the hopeless romantic he seems to be. “Ain’t it funny how things change? / All of a sudden we on the same page / Before you came I thought I drained my luck / Now you’ve redefined the way I smile,” he sings on the opening verse. Then, on the chorus, he assures her that loving her is easy, singing, “There’s nothing heavy bout this love, girl, it’s light for me.”

He keeps it just as simple and easy for the song’s lyric video. The clip shows him zipping by in a car as he sings. However, rather than focus on what’s going on around him, the entire clip is a tight closeup on his face. Not only does the approach make it easy to follow along with the song’s lyrics flashing at the bottom of the screen, but it also shows how sincere he is as he bobs his head to the easygoing groove.
