Doechii is quite the versatile artist. Since arriving on the scene, she’s given us house realness, R&B finesse and hip-hop swagger. But lest we forget, the “ROCKET” singer can get just as raw on the mic as some of your favorite MCs. She proves that with her recent Swamp Sessions series on YouTube, teasing fans with short-yet-banging raps that show just how skilled she is. One of those raps, “NISSAN ALTIMA,” was so crazy and sparked so much response that the performer rightfully released it as a single.
The song — which is undoubtedly not safe for work — starts with a looped beat almost reminiscent of Missy Elliott’s “She’s A B***h.” But we soon see that this is 100 percent Doechii. The opening verse teems with audacity as she lets us know that she’s the “new hip-hop Madonna” and the “trap Grace Jones” while rhyming at a pace that would make Twista take notice. And though she makes it seem effortless, her hard-hitting, raw and raunchy bars keep coming until the two-minute track’s end.
She keeps it ’hood in the accompanying clip, which features her hanging with the fellas while chopping it up around a Nissan Altima. She intentionally keeps the glam simple — with Bantu knots, a tank top with a pro-choice message written across it and oversized shorts completing her look — as she gets raw, speaking again to her versatility.
All of the other Swamp Sessions tracks thus far — "BULLFROG," "CATFISH" and "FLORIDA WATA" — could be singles in their own right. But we think Doechii made the right call by selecting "NISSAN ALTIMA" as the first one she's rolled out to streaming platforms. You can listen to the track and watch its video, along with the other selections, when you head below.
