It’s been a Hot +FE Music Summer. The indie label created by The Foreign Exchange has had a banner year as Phonte and Nicolay celebrate their 20th anniversary as a group, but it’s been all gas and no brakes this summer with a succession of new releases. They started the onslaught in July with Darien Brockington’s comeback album Where Love Grows and quickly followed that up with Phonte’s unexpected EP Pacific Time 2 earlier this month. Now the collective ends August with yet another drop with the announcement of Carlitta Durand’s brand-new EP Make Me Stay.
Carlitta has been affiliated with The Foreign Exchange for over a decade and appeared on numerous recordings. In recent weeks alone, she’s lent her honey-dipped vocals to D-Brock’s “Wonderluv” and Tay’s “Follow.” Now she’s officially a part of the family and making her +FE Music debut with this project.
The North Carolina songbird collaborated with DMV-based production team Anikan & Vader on Make Me Stay. She’s teased their work together with snippets of the cut “Motions,” which she’s been posting to Instagram. “Who doesn’t like a break up song,” she wrote this past spring. Durand has since shared lengthier previews of her singing the searingly beautiful track.
“I hate this part right after the break up / All alone why don’t we make up / Reasons that I knew before / Selfishly I just ignore,” Carlitta sings, voicing her brokenhearted feels. “Grieving all we used to be / Thought you were the one for me / Not so easy to move on / When your love lives in my heart.”
Thankfully, fans don’t have long to wait to hear “Motions” in full and the rest of the EP. Make room in your music collections and playlists for Carlitta Durand’s Make Me Stay to arrive on Tuesday, August 27th on +FE Music. Pre-save/pre-add Make Me Stay now on your choice of streaming services.
