Allen Stone is a name that should be quite familiar to SoulBounce readers. The singer-songwriter has been featured on our digital pages countless times, including when he brought us his single “Magic” last spring. Similar to that track, it seems that Allen is back to exploring his funk side more and more as he gives us another dose with his latest single “Can’t Explain This Love.”

Turning to Soulive’s Eric Krasno for production, Allen gets funkier than ever with a sound driven by the interplay between the drums and an extra sticky bass line. Once that connection is established at the song’s start, the singer contributes his vocals while other elements (rhythm guitar, horn steps and backing vocals) are peppered into the mix. It provides a hard-hitting contrast to the song’s loving message.

He sings of a love that is seemingly complicated from the outside looking in. However, for Allen and his honey, what’s understood between the two of them doesn’t need to be explained. “You can’t use no calculator / To measure what we got / Can’t put it down on paper / ’Cause words just ain’t enough,” he sings on the first chorus. “You could sail the whole equator / And you’d never split us up / You just can’t explain this love.”

In a press release, the singer further went into the creation and meaning behind the song. “The goal was to write a song that makes you move,” Allen said. “A tune I could sing and play live that would add energy to my live show. Luckily we found it. All about the love and relationship I have with my beautiful wife.”

The sweet sentiment gets even sweeter with the knowledge that “Can’t Explain This Love” is the first we’re hearing from the next Allen Stone project. He hasn’t revealed exact details about the set’s title or release date, but he has definitely stoked the fires of fans waiting for new music.
