Tinashe has had a big resurgence recently thanks to the meteoric viral success of her hit single “Nasty.” As that naughty little jam continues to make its case for song of the summer, Nasty Nashe is ready to move on to the next in the lead-up to her upcoming project Quantum Baby. That next step is her newest single “Getting No Sleep.”
“Getting No Sleep,” like “Nasty,” keeps Tinashe in bedroom mode, but this time around she’s a little bit more demure in her approach. Producers Nosaj Thing and Billy Lemos match the song’s level of freak with soft synths that beep and expand across quick-paced drums and the occasional interruption of other interesting sounds.
Tinashe, meanwhile, lays out a cozy scenario of chilling and making love all through the night. “Knew you’d be here two nights straight / Let yourself in at the gate / Big-a** house, got extra space / No bra, Santal, smells like cake / All gold teeth and all gold Ace,” she sings on the first verse. “He said, ‘Feels Friday like, different night, same vibe’ / Take you outside, movie scene every time / Flick me up, I’m fitted up, so pretty, no bad side.” She then keeps it really succinct and simple on the chorus as she repeats, “We ain’t getting no sleep, no, no.”
The song’s video picks up where the clip for “Nasty” left off. Tinashe is on the road after evading the drones searching for her. We ride along with her as she sings before pulling up to a rundown bar in the desert. She walks into the place until she finds who she was looking for: a doppelganger of herself. The two meet and then instantly begin passionately kissing for the entirety of the second chorus. After having her fill of herself, she eventually wanders back outside only to discover that her pursuers have finally caught up to her.
Though there’s no “to be continued” to make us think there’s another part to this story, we have a feeling there’s more to come. That’s mainly because Tinashe has finally announced the release date for Quantum Baby and it’s quite soon. We’ll have the project officially in our hands on Friday, August 16th, just in time to ride out the summer with her.
