Big things are poppin’ for Noochie’s Live From The Front Porch series. The visionary rapper and host recently shot a Nike commercial on his now-famous porch, and he’ll be taking his brainchild and a few special guests to the Kennedy Center for a performance scheduled for January 2025. The series keeps growing with more of our favorite artists showing up on the porch, including the Songstress herself Marsha Ambrosius.
Fresh from the release of her brand-new, Dr. Dre-produced album CASABLANCO, Marsha made sure to pack her set with songs from the collection alongside classics from her crates. She began with the single “One Night Stand” and leaned into the sample material from the Mary Jane Girls and Mary J. Blige while also displaying her vocal range.
She stepped down from the porch to give us “Butterflies,” a song that she wrote with Andre Harris of Dre & Vidal fame for Michael Jackson’s 2001 album Invincible. The former Floetry member sang the version from their 2002 debut album Floetic and ended with an interpolation of Jackson’s “I Can’t Help It.”
Marsha decided to have a seat on the steps to deliver her next song from CASABLANCO “Greedy.” She sat on business and brought the drama to the emotional number. She stayed in position to share her bitter yet hilarious feelings about a funky ex on “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player),” from her solo debut Late Nights & Early Mornings.
She double-backed to Floetic to sing the sultry classic “Say Yes.” Marsha added some sauce to the already sexy track by blending in her Jamie Foxx duet “Freak’in Me” and topping it off with Ludacris’ “What’s Your Fantasy” and Usher’s “Nice & Slow.” She only sang a snippet of “Nice & Slow,” but she sounded so good it made us wonder why she wasn’t selected to sing that track during the BET Awards 2024 Usher tribute.
Ambrosius could have dropped the mic right then and there and taken a bow, but she had one more in the chamber. She ended her performance with CASABLANCO lead single “The Greatest” and reminded us that she’s one of them ones.
