R&B lovers are definitely being fed this summer. Several high profile album releases have come in recent months and several more are on the schedule in the coming weeks. One anticipated release is the third studio album from Texas singer-songwriter Khalid. He’s set to drop the set, titled Sincere, next month and is giving us one more listen before its release with new single “Ground.”
“Ground” is yet another mellow cut from the singer-songwriter, with him singing of literal high times as he relaxes into the groove. He sings of “candy-colored skies” and sunsets as his consciousness melts into his surroundings after taking what sounds like mushrooms and contemplating the world and life.
Helping us to join in the experience is a sound bed of spare synths placed atop the steady rhythm of programmed drums and vocal samples that propels it forward. It helps to keep things grounded even as he sings of a thought-provoking trip in the verses. The chorus also aids to keep Khalid and the listener firmly planted as he sings, “I’ll be right here on the ground / My feet, feet don’t fail me now.”
“Ground” will join previous singles “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me” and “Adore U” on the tracklist for Sincere. And we’ll be able to experience the full album very soon, as the set will arrive on Friday, August 2nd.
