DJ Mustard might be on the beat, but Kendrick Lamar is still on Drake’s neck even after we thought their beef reached its peak back in May. The Compton representer knows how to hold a grudge. He’s ridden this beef all the way to the top of the charts and even gathered friends for an unforgettable concert event on the strength of his (so far) final salvo in the battle, “Not Like Us.” He keeps things simmering deep into the summer, however, by dropping off the track’s unexpected visual.
The clip starts with Kendrick marching down a hall with a flashing light while we hear a brief snippet of an unreleased cut that sounds quite funky. We‘re then greeted by krumping originator Tommy The Clown, whose presence lets us know that this will be an LA affair. The visual — directed by Dave Free and Kendrick himself (in one of many middle fingers directed at Drake and his claims during this rap war) — then takes us into many sets and hoods to represent the culture of the Los Angeles area, with a special affinity for Compton.
There are many moments and cameos, including members of his TDE crew, song producer DJ Mustard and what seems like the entirety of Compton in a massive crowd. But the one that stands out the most is Kendrick‘s fiancée Whitney Alford and his children c-walking in their living room as a family as they dance all over Drake‘s allegations that there might be trouble in their relationship.
We‘re not taking sides in this beef, other than to say that it has been quite entertaining for hip-hop fans to witness. That being said, we’re not sure how Drizzy might be able to bounce back from such a resounding blow from Kung Fu Kenny.
If you want to catch the latest chapter in this never-ending beef, we suggest that you step this way to watch Kendrick Lamar in the “Not Like Us” video when you press play.
