We were wondering what Gallant had in store for us this year after hearing his angsty single “Coldstar.” and now we know. The singer-songwriter and Maryland native recently announced that he will be releasing his new album Zinc. later this year. But before he drops off what’s sure to be a gem, he offers us another listen to the upcoming project with its next single “Fly On The Wall. (Osaka Version).”

“Fly On The Wall.” continues in the angsty direction previously explored by “Coldstar.,” though the sound of this one is just a little warmer. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t just as moody, though. As guitar and drums lead the way, Gallant gets vulnerable as he reflects on mistakes that he’s made in love.

He alludes to various discussions he and his lover may have had, including his blaming them for him losing his temper and his own unwillingness to open up. He then reimagines the situations and tells us what he would say if given another chance on the song’s chorus.

“If I could do it again, I’d say / Please don’t mind me, I’m a fly on the wall / You don’t have to put on for me / Let down your hair and your guard,” he sings.

“It came together as an honest and visceral story I’d been trying to write for a long time,” Gallant said in a press release. “It’s focused on the lyrics. The chorus reminded me of saying something I regretted in the heat of the moment during an argument.”

It seems that Zinc. will allow for a catharsis of sorts for Gallant as it’s a project that’s given him quite a bit of creative freedom. “I entertained myself and got a lot off my chest. I stuck to my guns and created an unfettered body of work that feels like me,” he said of the project in the press release. We’ll get to hear exactly what that sounds like when the album arrives on Friday, September 27th.
