Darien Brockington made fans slow their scroll on Instagram earlier this week to make sure that their eyes and timelines weren’t playing tricks on them. The singer-songwriter posted an image of him suited and booted in a light pink suit and white kicks with a title behind his head. At first glance, it appeared to be a single cover. However, a big surprise awaited when anyone swiped left to reveal a whole tracklist.
That’s right, folks, this is not a drill. Darien Brockington is releasing a new album entitled Where Love Grows, and it arrives on Tuesday, July 9th on +FE Music. The project holds the distinction of being his first brand-new release on the label owned by The Foreign Exchange’s Nicolay and Phonte, and it is his first album in 14 years.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since D-Brock released an album, but the year was 2010 when he dropped his third project The Cold Case Files. Although he subsequently appeared on Zo! & Tall Black Guy’s song “Hold My Hand” with Muhsinah and Phonte from their 2021 project Abstractions and sang the duet “Thinkin Bout It” with BeMyFiasco from her album Where I Left You later that same year, he’s largely lived his life out of the spotlight.
Darien is ready to return to it in a major way with Where Love Grows. The eight-song collection features guest spots from Phonte, Little Brother, Carmen Rodgers, Carlitta Durand, BeMyFiasco and Davian Dewayne and production from Zo! and Tall Black Guy, among others.
