It’s rare that a visual can be an event in these days of constant content vying for our attention. However, if you’re one Victoria Monét and have your hands on a Kaytranada-produced jam like “Alright,” then your fans have been clamoring for a video for the song ever since they first heard it on JAGUAR II. Victoria heard their cry and has been teasing the clip’s arrival for days, with her even dropping a full-on movie theater-inspired trailer for the visual on her socials. Now the video is finally here and is well worth the hype.
The singer turned to famed video director Dave Meyers and her go-to choreographer Sean Bankhead to bring “Alright” to life, and the fellas bring their “A” game. The clip begins with the beautiful Miss Monét standing atop a turntable while coated in a skin-tight, silvery catsuit before transitioning into a full group dance shot amid a flurry of glitter.
She continues to pull out more stops in moments that show her influences. That’s particularly true for a moment where Victoria and her dancers don shiny suits inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”-era while also evoking Janet Jackson's sexy androgyny from “I Get Lonely.” The heat is all Victoria, though, and she lets it be known as the video ends with her and her dancers shooting off sparks before being doused in water to serve us a sexy wet look.
We already knew that Victoria Monét had the goods, but “Alright” cements that the talented singer-songwriter is on a whole other level. Prepare for your jaw to drop when you press play on the visual below.
