When it comes to R&B, Muni Long can do no wrong. And when it comes to love, she knows exactly what – and who – she wants. She makes her wishlist known in her brand-new single “Make Me Forget” and is very clear about the desires of her heart with her soulmate.
Producers Tricky Stewart, MOMBRU and Jehreeus build “Make Me Forget” upon an interpolation of the piano arrangement from D’Angelo’s classic 24-year-old cut “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” Muni is right at home on this slow jam sound bed as she sings from the soul.
She begins the song with some real talk. “When the one that I’m with ain’t the one that I want / I want to fight for my love, I want a united front / I’m an alpha and (I am) I need an Alpha man (man) / Need him to understand there’s power in the tongue,” she shares. “So speak to my heart, babe / Speak to the queen in me / Though we might disagree, don’t say nothing you don’t mean.”
Muni continues to break it down on the chorus. “Want you to make me forget / Please, can you make me forget? / I want you to make me forget / Anything before you that didn’t feel like this,” she sings to her one true love.
Long has crafted a song as timeless as the source of its sample. “To me, it’s like a warm bath. It’s a love letter,” she says of the track. “It says, ‘You’re not perfect. We’ve got a lot of things to work on, but can we focus on the amazing feeling we have when we’re together?’ I’m not the person to encourage you to leave. We need more peace and joy.”
“Make Me Forget” follows Muni Long’s latest R&B anthem “Made For Me” and has the potential to be her next big hit. Both records precede the release of her sophomore album later this summer on Supergiant Records/Def Jam Recordings. Long hasn’t shared the title or release date yet for her follow-up to her 2022 debut Public Displays Of Affection: The Album, but we are on high alert.
