Lenny Kravitz is currently enjoying yet another round of resurgence in the mainstream as he gears up to release his new album Blue Electric Light. He got early awards season buzz when his song “Road To Freedom” from recent film Rustin secured him his first Golden Globe nomination, and he’s even nominated as a potential inductee for this year’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame class. To top all that off, the singer-songwriter was also honored with his very own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. While he has the world’s attention, Lenny takes advantage of the limelight to direct our ears to some new sounds with the release of his single “Human.”
“Human” falls in line with Lenny’s more optimistic take on pop rock. The track is a self-empowering anthem for anyone looking to embrace their own humanity as they make their strides. “I’m gonna live my truth in this life / I am not gonna live a lie / ’Cause I came here to be alive / I am here to be human,” he sings on the chorus. “I’m gonna keep my head to the sky / Gonna walk each step with pride / ’Cause I came here to be alive / I am here to be human.” The industry vet declares these intentions over a pulsing rhythm guitar, smooth synth chords and drums that add a little bit of rock star edge to the proceedings.
It seems the song also marks the official roll out for Blue Electric Light, as Lenny took to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform the song earlier this week. Clad in champagne pink leather pants, a black leather jacket as his signature shades, he rocked the crowd with the self-assured confidence and sex appeal that he’s become known for.
Blue Electric Light is scheduled to arrive on Friday, May 24th (just two days before Lenny's 60th birthday) and is available to pre-order now. But before you break out your wallet, listen to a stream of the single and watch his triumphant performance of “Human” when you venture below.
